For the first time in many, many years, we are attending a meet at Gillis Field House on the campus of the U.S. Military Academy in West Point. Honestly, I believe it has to be more than a decade since we have competed there. In addition, this the rarest of indoor meets for us as it will be held on a flat (non-banked) track. With very few exceptions, all of our indoor meets are held either at the Armory in New York City or at Boston University.
The official name of the meet is the 2015 Army 5-Way Meet. It actually starts on Friday with Day 1 of the heptathlon. We do not have any multi-athletes, so we will be there on Saturday, with the following schedule, for those interested ...
11:55 a.m.: National Anthem
12 noon start, rolling schedule, women first
5,000-meter run (open and non-scored)
Mile run
60-meter hurdles
400-meter dash
500-meter dash
60-meter dash
800-meter run
1,000-meter run
200-meter dash
3,000-meter run
4x400 relay
4x800 relay
Women's high jump at 1 p.m. (the only field event where we have athletes entered)
Teams scheduled to participate: Army, Lehigh, Loyola Maryland (women), Manhattan (men), Marist, Rider.
We are grateful for the invitation to this meet and we look forward to competing close to home.
As I read your post, I had the thought, "the team competed in an indoor meet at West Point fairly recently! I remember it was my sophomore year..." and then I realized that my sophomore year was the 2005-2006 school year, which was in fact, almost a decade ago. Yikes.
