What's next: IC4A/ECAC

We are in a transitional mode, with the majority of our program setting its sights on the rapidly approaching outdoor track season. We have one more indoor track meet to go, this weekend's ECAC/IC4A Championships at Boston University. Alert blog followers will note that we have both the DMR and 4x800 relays qualified on both the men's and women's teams. The women's relays are on separate days -- 4x800 trials on Saturday and DMR (final on time) on Sunday, which will allow for some doubling among athletes on those teams. The men's relays are back-to-back -- both trials for advancement to Sunday's final -- so there won't be any doubling up there. We are proud to have both relays qualified for this championship meet. It's still a big deal to us to get athletes to this meet and we look forward to their representing our school and our program. OK!

Fastrack Last Chance: Men's 4x800 relay qualifies for IC4As

Our middle distance depth was challenged and tested, and our team passed the challenge with flying colors. Missing key cogs of our 4x800 relay due to injury (Morrison) and illness (Ropes), our four men stepped up on Saturday night to notch a hard-earned IC4A qualifying mark and first-place finish. An excellent effort from all of these guys!

Fastrack Last Chance: Rizzo joins sub-15:00 club

Congratulations to junior Steven Rizzo for becoming the 25th member of the sub-15:00 club in school history over 5,000 meters. Rizz dipped under with a strong early pace and a very strong final kilometer. His teammate and good buddy Dietrich Mosel (a sub-15 guy himself, pictured with him on the left) set the blistering early pace for him, and then he did the rest. Nicely done, Rizz!

Fastrack Last Chance: Women's DMR qualifies for ECACs

With only two teams in the race -- Marist and Fordham -- aiming for that elusive ECAC qualifying mark in the DMR was going to be challenging, but our ladies were up to the challenge. We now have both the DMR and 4x800 relays qualified for next weekend's championships, at Boston University. Neat!

What's next: Fastrack Last Chance

Our next indoor track meet is the Fastrack Last Chance at Ocean Breeze on Saturday night. The meet is hosted by our good pal Nick McDonough. He puts on excellent meets -- great competition and well-run. We will be chasing a few relay qualifying standards as well as several individual personal-best times as the indoor season slowly winds down and we start gearing up for the outdoor track season. Will post a complete time schedule when it's available, probably tomorrow or at the latest on Friday.

MAAC Indoors: Day 1 results, reformatted

Here are the complete Day 1 results for our team, with more traditional looking splits. The Armory Official Splits are excellent, but my not so nimble brain cannot get them formatted properly for this fancy blog. So, if you want to navigate through them, see the previous post. If you want to see the results and splits in more traditional blog format ... here they are! It's a beautiful day outside, perfect weather for the MAAC Outdoor Championships, Day 2. Unfortunately, it's Day 2 ... INDOORS.

MAAC Indoors: Snapchat takeover

As I mentioned (I think?) yesterday, our team has taken over the Marist Athletics Snapchat for the weekend. Here's one of the many, many images that are being posted -- our beloved fifth-year seniors, back at the Armory for one last go-round with the Red Foxes. For many of them, it's the end of nearly a decade of racing in the old building in Washington Heights. OK!

MAAC Indoors: With a little help from our friends

We are always always grateful for the loyal support of parents, families and alumni, at Saturday night at the Armory was no different. A few alums went the extra mile -- literally -- to be there for the team: Michelle Gaye, all the way from Texas in a surprise visit (pictured here with her old coach, holding the ubiquitous cup of coffee); Hild, driving up from DC for a day and night in the city ... no one is more loyal to our program; Christine Coughlin, down from the Albany area for the weekend; Keegan, who lives in the city, back at the site of some of his best running moments; Kenny Walshak, of course; recent alums Siobhan Pokorney and Olivia Jaquith. We love them all (yeah, even Hild) and are so glad they could be there to get us through an intense night of ups and downs for our Running Red Foxes. Did I forget anyone? I hope not; if I did, let me know. Thank you all.

MAAC Indoors: Men's results and splits, Day 1

The meet started with a 35-minute delay because no one could locate a starter and a starter's pistol. As a result, the women's and men's mile trials were started by a whistle and were hand-timed. You can't make this stuff up. After that, the time schedule caught up and the meet went on as planned, a competitive and intense first day. Results and splits (Armory official splits, as well as team splits provided by Saad Baig and Omar Perez) follow. Back at it later today for Day 2.

MAAC Indoors: First place in something

We are on the JTR buses en route to the Armory for the MAAC Indoor Championships -- on a day when we could easily be outside for the MAAC Outdoor Championships, or any other outdoor meet, for that matter. Nice weather! Too bad we'll be cooped up in the Armory the next two afternoon/evenings. Anyway! The MAAC announced its All-Academic Teams and once again our women's and men's teams led the way with the most number of selections. As always, we are proud of our student-athletes -- "student" always comes first. More updates later from the meet (and perhaps on Twitter and Snapchat, if you are so inclined). OK!

Pre-meet fun: Retro ballin' day

The women's distance crew had a "theme" day of "Retro Ballin' " today and the outfits -- and, in some cases, the hair -- were truly outrageous. Neat!

Happy Valentine's Day

They don't call him "Bromar" for nothing ... fifth-year senior Omar Perez (demerits for not wearing Marist team gear!) showed his true class by getting flowers for the "grandmas" -- fellow fifth-years Brie Vess, Annie Gould and Nicki Nesi. Very sweet, Omar. Speaking of sweet ... it sure has been nice having these guys around for an extra year. A bonus year with our favorite "grandparents" of the team! Neat.

MAAC Indoors: A new view on a championship

For the first time in championship history, the MAAC Indoor Meet will be a two-day championship with trials in all events except the relays and long distance races. It will make for a different and exciting format and we are looking forward to it. Here is the preliminary time schedule for the meet. If there are updates, I will post them here. Hope to see many family and friends in attendance either or both days. OK!
